Our long awaited SEND day finally arrived. Alexandra Evans, from our School and Sarah Sinclair, Commissioner for SEND and Performance, from Liverpool City Council, have spent the last few months planning and coordinating the event. Primarily it was an event to showcase the Liverpool ‘Local Offer,’ for young people Post 16 with SEND, including complex needs.
Organizations from across Merseyside attended, bringing a wealth of experience and information to show how they can support young people and their families. Schools and Colleges also attended to showcase the range of Educational Opportunities available across the whole SEND spectrum for young people.
Whilst the organizations from across Merseyside were able to show how they support young people and families, there was a huge spin-off. What a brilliant opportunity to meet each other, share and exchange information with professionals from a whole range of backgrounds, including Liverpool Local Authority, None Maintained Special Schools and the Private, Voluntary and Independent Sector. Finding out about each other and what we can offer is key to supporting young people in order to identify the Social and Educational opportunities to best meet their needs.
Let’s hope it won’t be too long before we can organize another SEND ‘Independence Day !’
Thanks to everyone who invested their time and energy to support the event and thankyou to all the young people and their families who came.
